Today I will share some Afrikaans nouns related to the garden.

The English word will always be first with the Afrikaans word following.

  • Shrub – Struik
  • Plant – Plant
  • Tree – Boom
  • Flower – Blom
  • Fruit – Vrug
  • Vegetable – Groente
  • Plant pot – Plant pot
  • Fence – Heining
  • Gate – Hek
  • Grass – Gras
  • Mower – Grassnyer
  • Hoe – Skoffel
  • Rake – Hark
  • Shovel – Graaf
  • (Gardening) Gloves – (Tuinmaak) Handskoene

  1. Hi. That bush is most likely an English shrub or an Afrikaans struik. Don’t rely too much on your dictionary as all isn’t always what it seems to be. Commendable effort from your side. 😎
